ChatGPT Search arrived in October 2024 in the form of a test for users of the AI platform’s paid plans. Google got ahead of this format with its AI Overviews, with questionable results at first but which have improved significantly over time.
Openai account no longer required to use ChatGPT Search
In April of last year, OpenAI announced that you can use ChatGPT quickly and easily without an account. ChatGPT Search has been available to all users since last December, but it still required you to log in. Now, OpenAI has removed this requirement, allowing you to use ChatGPT Search without registering. It seems that OpenAI is now confident enough in the robustness of its search engine to enable mass access and be sure that most users will get a positive impression.
“Like the logged-in experience, ChatGPT can search the web and get you fast, timely answers with links to relevant web sources directly in ChatGPT,” the firm said. The wide availability and no-login requirement of ChatGPT Search was a necessary step. After all, the rival they want to catch—Google Search—is also accessible without registration.
ChatGPT Search works in a similar way to Google Search’s AI Overviews. Search results will include specific answers based on previously processed data. The service will also show you the sources from which ChatGPT Search processed the data. Google is not OpenAI’s only rival when it comes to AI-powered searches. Perplexity has a similar service, also accessible without an account.
