Meta: Facebook parent Meta will lay off around 3,600 employees who are identified as low performers in the new year, Bloomberg reported. CEO Mark Zuckerberg described the decision as a step to “raise the bar on performance management and move out low-performers faster” as the company forges ahead in building out AI-powered services and immersive devices.
Microsoft: It was reported that Microsoft began performance-based layoffs this month. Many employees were given termination notices for not meeting the company’s job performance standards. According to media reports, affected employees will get no severance packages.
Salesforce: Software-as-a-service firm Salesforce is reportedly cutting over 1,000 jobs. The company is simultaneously hiring workers to sell new AI products.
Amazon: Bloomberg reported on January 29 that the ecommerce giant laid off dozens of people in its communications department, the latest culling of the corporate workforce amid executives’ efforts to cut costs and reduce bureaucracy.

Stripe: US-based fintech company Stripe reportedly sent layoff notices to 300 employees in January. The layoffs primarily impacted employees in product and operations roles, though some in engineering were also affected.Sonos: Premium audio hardware firm Sonos announced that it will let 200 people go in a letter posted to its site. This comes after it laid off 100 persons in August.
Layoffs in India
ShareChat: ET reported on January 16 that ShareChat is laying off around 30-40 employees, or 5% of its workforce. The Google-backed vernacular social media platform is looking to cut operating costs and plans to reduce its employee count to 500 by March 2025.
Pocket FM: Audio streaming platform Pocket FM let go of 75 employees as part of a cost-cutting exercise recently.
