Writers are currently working on the next season of Apple TV+ series Severance, according to reports. Season 1 of the psychological thriller and sci-fi show reportedly generated over $200 million for the streaming service by attracting new subscribers. With the success of the first season, the third season is aiming for a faster release, with a gap shorter than the three-year wait between the original and second seasons.
Although Apple has yet to officially confirm a third season of Severance, Ben Stiller, one of the executive producers and directors of the series, revealed in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter that “there is a writers’ room underway in L.A.,” with teams already working on the next installment of the show.
Set in a dystopian world, Severance follows the employees of a mysterious company who undergo a procedure that severs their memories between work and personal life. This results in workers having no recollection of their life outside the office, while their outside lives remain a mystery to them.
The story centers around Mark Scout (played by Adam Scott), a worker at Lumon Industries, who begins to question the ethical implications and purpose of the procedure. As Mark uncovers disturbing secrets about his job and the company, the series delves into themes of identity, memory, control, and the dark consequences of dehumanizing corporate culture.
In the second season, which is currently releasing new episodes weekly on Apple TV+, Mark and his colleagues learn the consequences of tampering with the severance barrier, pushing them deeper into a path of mystery and woe.
