If you want a good source of leaks for upcoming devices, case and accessory manufacturers are a pretty good place to look. More recently, case maker Spigen accidentally revealed the design of the iPhone SE 4 by posting renders of the phone on its website. The listing, which has now been taken down, showed the phone inside Spigen’s cases. This confirms some of the rumors we’ve been hearing about Apple’s next budget iPhone.
What the renders reveal
The most noticeable design change? The iPhone SE 4 ditches the iPhone 8-style design from its predecessor. Apple has adopted a more modern look, ditching the physical home button in the process in favor of a full touchscreen display. The renders also confirm that the device will have a notched display. This is versus earlier rumors that suggested that the iPhone SE 4 could feature Dynamic Island. The use of the notch makes the iPhone SE 4 look more like the iPhone 13 rather than the iPhone 14.
One interesting detail from the renders is what appears to be a button on the side of the phone. This button is placed where the Alert Slider normally resides. Apple’s newer iPhone 15 Pro models replaced the physical mute switch with an Action Button. Based on these renders, it looks like the iPhone SE 4 could be following in its footsteps. However, it’s a bit hard to tell from the renders, so that’s just speculation.
Another bit of information revealed from the renders is the single camera on the back. This is kind of disappointing. There are many budget Android phones out there that offer multiple lenses. We don’t see why Apple couldn’t have done the same.
Other rumored specs
Despite being a budget device, the iPhone SE 4 could actually be quite a powerful handset. Rumors suggest it will be powered by Apple’s A18 chipset. This is the same chip found in the iPhone 16 lineup. This means users can expect performance to be on par, unless Apple were to make the cores slower.
The use of the A18 also means that the iPhone SE 4 should be powerful enough to support Apple Intelligence features.
Other rumored specs include 8GB of RAM, double that of the 4GB found in the iPhone SE 3. The inclusion of the notch suggests that there is support for Face ID. Rumors suggest that the new model features a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, marking the first time an SE model uses OLED technology instead of LCD.
Rumors suggest that the iPhone SE 4 will start at $499. This matches the launch price of the iPhone SE 3 in 2022. This is actually quite reasonable, considering it is an Apple product. Apple has yet to confirm a launch date, but recent rumors suggest that the announcement could happen this week.
