Some users report seeing previously disabled Apple Intelligence features being quietly re-enabled after updating their device to Apple’s most recent software versions, reports MacRumors.
Apple on Monday released macOS Sequoia 15.3.1, iOS 18.3.1, and iPadOS 18.3.1 updates, which users were encouraged to update to as they included important security fixes.
Shortly after the rollout, software developer Jeff Johnson collected some early reports complaining about the issue, noting that devices that displayed a Welcome screen after updating were particularly likely to have Apple Intelligence automatically re-enabled.
This automatic re-enabling of Apple Intelligence features after an update is performed obviously raises concerns about the amount of control a user has over their devices. Considering the small hard drives some entry-level Mac models have, the 7GB of storage space taken up by Apple Intelligence, could cause issues.
If you wish to ensure that Apple Intelligence remains disabled on your device, verify your settings as follows: Go to: “Settings” (“System Settings” on the Mac) → “Apple Intelligence & Siri.”
