Apple is finally making its Apple TV+ streaming service available on Android smartphones and tablets.
It’s been a little over five years since Apple TV+ first launched as Apple’s answer to Netflix, during which time its has popped up in app form on numerous third party streaming boxes and smart TVs. Despite this, we still don’t have a dedicated app for Android devices – or we didn’t until now.
Apple has announced the availability of the Apple TV app for Android, starting from 12 February. It should be on the Google Play Store right now.
How do I access Apple TV+?
Apple TV is available now on the Google Play Store for free, and it should work on all devices running Android 10 and above. That will include all but the most ancient phones and tablets.
Downloading the Apple TV+ app is one thing, but you’ll need to sign up for an Apple TV+ account. Fortunately, Apple is offering a seven day free trial for new subscribers, so you can get a taste of what’s on offer before you commit.
If and when you decide to continue with your subscription, you’ll find that it’s one of the cheaper streaming services out there. It’ll cost you a flat £8.99 a month, with no bothersome tiers if you want 4K. It’s all there under the one payment.

Apple
Why would I want to sign up for Apple TV+ anyway?
That’s an easy one. While it might not have the same cultural ubiquity as Netflix or Disney+, and it certainly doesn’t churn out the same amount of content, Apple TV+ is quietly one of the most consistently strong streaming services out there.
Severance might just be the hottest show on TV right now. It’s right in the middle of its second season, with first one standing as one of the best seasons of any TV show in the past ten years.
Elsewhere you have four seasons of For All Mankind and two seasons of Silo, which are two of the best sci-fi series on TV. And unlike with the somewhat fickle Netflix, more of both series are promised, despite the fact they’re not super-viral mega smash hits.

Then there are the comedy offerings, including hit show Ted Lasso (probably the most viral Apple TV+ show yet) and the Harrison Ford-starring Shrinking.
You also get access to Apple-funded movies such as Blitz, Killers of the Flower Moon, Napoleon, and the Oscar-winning CODA.
There’s something for sports fans too. Footy fanatics get access to MLS games, so you can catch up on how Messi is doing in the final years of his hallowed playing career. Baseball fans, meanwhile, get weekly Friday Night Baseball.
