Google stops selling Chromecast with Google TV

Google introduced the Google TV Streamer, a sleek set-top-box, as a replacement for the old Google Chromecast products. Soon after launching the new content streaming device, the search titan said that it is no longer making new units of the old Chromecast products. Google also mentioned that the Chromecast with Google TV 4K and HD will remain on sale until inventory runs out, and it will not replenish any stock after that. Now, Google has finally stopped selling the Chromecast with Google TV.

Google finally stops selling the Chromecast with Google TV

The Chromecast with Google TV is no longer available to buy in the Google Store as Google has finally stopped selling it. It appears that Google has run out of the existing inventory of the older Chromecast streaming accessory. As of today in the Google Store, “No longer available” shows up on the product page for the Chromecast with Google TV. Also, the Smart Home > Streaming landing page only shows the Google TV Streamer.

Google will continue to support all existing Chromecast devices out in the wild with ongoing software updates. However, we’re still waiting for the Android 14 update for the streaming accessory. Google believes that people no longer want cheap streaming devices like the Chromecast as even the most affordable TVs now offer that basic functionality.

The Google TV Streamer finally marked an end for the Chromecast with Google TV. It’s worth mentioning that you might find the old device at some third-party retailers. However, inventory in these stores is also running low.

The Google TV Streamer is the future

Google has discontinued the Chromecast with Google TV in favor of the new Google TV Streamer. It is the future of streaming from Google with more features. The new accessory offers Android 14 for TV, a more powerful processor, Google AI integration, and smart home features. As per Google, the TV Streamer is 22 percent faster than the previous Chromecast products. Along with that, it has 4GB of RAM, which is a significant improvement over the 2GB of RAM in the Chromecast dongle.

That said, the Google Store is selling the Google TV Streamer for $99. The new device costs double the price of the Chromecast with Google TV (4K). However, all the new software and hardware upgrades are worth every penny.
