Instead of one of the big players, Chinese company Infinix has confirmed that it will be the first to launch a dedicated DeepSeek phone.
As T3 reports, the Deepseek R1 phone will integrate with the AI system of Folax, the company’s own voice assistant. Folax already uses AI, but it’s currently based on ChatGPT.
According to Infinix, internal tests have shown that the DeepSeek version of Folax is significantly faster at understanding requests. Another appreciated feature is that it shows how it arrives at its answers, making the process more transparent.
The official presentation is expected to take place on 26 February 2025, just before the Mobile World Congress (MWC) event in Barcelona.
DeepSeek AI is a ChatGPT-like large language model, but it uses a slightly different technology. It’s based on a method called “Mixture of Experts” (MOE), which means that it activates only the most relevant parts of its model on each request.
Unlike ChatGPT, which treats all queries on a broader scale, DeepSeek selects the most relevant ‘experts’ to answer your particular question. This makes it faster and more energy efficient, which in turn reduces its environmental impact.
But DeepSeek is not without its problems. The AI model comes from China, and there are several examples where it censors content that the Chinese government does not approve of. Moreover, it allegedly takes the Chinese government’s line on political and human rights issues.
These privacy issues have led to the app being banned in South Korea, which explains why Samsung isn’t using it. Instead, the company has integrated Google Gemini into its latest Galaxy S25 series phones.
