Apple recently unveiled the iPhone 16e as the successor to the 2022 iPhone SE model. The Cupertino giant’s latest entry-level, budget phone brings a handful of hardware upgrades hidden beneath a familiar exterior. Soon after Apple started shipping the iPhone 16e, the YouTube channel REWA Technology shared a teardown video of the device. It provides us with a look inside the latest budget iPhone model.
iPhone 16e has a significantly larger battery than the iPhone 16, thanks to a new internal design
REWA Technology’s teardown video of the iPhone 16e has revealed that the phone has an all-new internal design. It has allowed the company to put a significantly larger battery inside the iPhone 16e, compared to the iPhone SE (2022) or iPhone SE 3. The video shows that the new iPhone has a 4,005mAh battery, exceeding earlier reports of a 3,961mAh power cell. It is much bigger than the vanilla iPhone 16’s 3,561mAh battery capacity.
Furthermore, the teardown has revealed that the iPhone 16’s internal layout shares similarities with the standard iPhone 15, but there are some key differences. Notably, the camera setup of the new model is much more simplified. Instead of the dual-camera setup found on the iPhone 15, the iPhone 16e has a single 48MP lens. This reduction in the main camera module size has freed up space, paving the way for a significantly larger battery.
In addition, the iPhone 16e has an improved battery removal system using a low-voltage electric current. The iPhone 15 model also uses this system, which simplifies battery replacements by making them more accessible. For those who prefer the watt-hours battery measurement unit, the iPhone 16e has a 15.55 Wh battery, while the regular iPhone 16 has a 13.83 Wh power cell.
The teardown also provides us a look at the new iPhone’s logic board
Furthermore, the teardown also gives us a look at the iPhone 16e’s logic board. It shows the Apple A18 chip and the brand’s custom-designed C1 cellular modem. The source claims that the A18 chip of the new model will be harder to repair as it is more difficult to remove than the other iPhones.
Also, the video shows that the iPhone 16e lacks MagSafe magnets to offer wireless charging capabilities. Apple states that the new affordable iPhone does not offer MagSafe because “most people in the iPhone 16e’s target audience exclusively charge their phones by plugging them into a charging cable”. However, for users who like the convenience of wireless charging, some third-party iPhone 16e cases come with built-in magnets.
