Unlike many tech companies, Apple rarely does product teasers. The company usually sends out invites to events, and the invites contain a clue as to what Apple could announce. This is why we were quite excited when Apple CEO Tim Cook made a recent post on X teasing that something’s in the “Air.”
Not the iPhone 17 Air, we’re afraid
We know that there are rumors suggesting that Apple has a new iPhone 17 Air in the works. Before you get too excited and think the Apple CEO Tim Cook’s teaser has something to do with the iPhone 17 Air, we’re sorry to disappoint. The iPhone 17 Air will most likely be announced alongside the iPhone 17 models later in the year.
However, if you’re looking forward to getting a new MacBook or an iPad, then perhaps this teaser could be for you.
MacBook Air and iPad Air refresh
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the first Apple product due for a refresh on the list is most likely the MacBook. The analyst also recently posted on X on how one retailer source told him that they are out of stock on the iPad Air. This suggests that Apple’s announcement is most likely for the MacBook Air and iPad Air.
The MacBook Air is due for an M4 refresh after its Pro siblings got the upgrade, so this makes sense. It has also been about a year since Apple refreshed the iPad Air. So it stands to reason that a new iPad Air could be announced alongside it. According to Gurman, a combo announcement isn’t out of the question.
Another thing worth noting is that Apple used the same tagline when it announced the first MacBook Air in 2008. Unless Apple somehow forgot its past marketing campaigns, Cook’s post on X seems to be a cheeky little throwback to the iconic moment when Apple’s co-founder Steve Jobs pulled the laptop out of a manila envelope.
We don’t have the exact specs of the M4 MacBook Air yet. However, if it’s anything like the base M4 MacBook Pro, we can expect an upgrade over the M3. This will go from an 8-core CPU to a 10-core CPU. It should also support up to 32GB of RAM, and come with an upgrade 12MP webcam.
Cook’s teaser suggests that the announcement will take place this week, so we’ll keep our eyes peeled.
