Death Stranding 2 gets an official launch date, pre-orders open this month

Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is the highly anticipated sequel to Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding, and over the weekend, an official launch date was confirmed as part of SXSW. To announce the launch date, Death Stranding 2 was given a brand-new 10-minute long pre-order trailer.

It’s filled with everything from snippets of in-game cinematics to new characters and even a bit of Sam (Norman Reedus) trekking across new locales. While the trailer is long, it’s worth a full watch if you are a fan of the original game. Death Stranding 2: On The Beach officially launches this Summer, specifically on June 26. It will be a PlayStation-exclusive game, just like the original, and will be available for $69.99 for the Standard Edition.

There will also be a Digital Deluxe Edition available for $79.99 and a Collector’s Edition for $229.99. Although it will be exclusive to PS5 for a while, it should eventually come to PC. That being said, if it’s anything like the first game, the gap between the PS5 version of Death Stranding 2 and a PC release could be several months. The original was released on PS4 in November of 2019 and not until July of 2020 for the PC copy. This was followed by a Director’s Cut for PS5 that came out in September 2021. Then on PC in March of 2022. It was also released for Xbox Game Pass in August of that same year.

In addition to the launch date, the Death Stranding 2 trailer also reveals pre-order times

While the game won’t be available for a few more months, you’ll actually be able to pre-order it much sooner. Pre-orders for the game will begin on March 17. If you’re aiming for the Collector’s Edition, that’s the date you want to keep in mind, as Collector’s Editions tend to go fast. It’s also worth mentioning that by pre-ordering either the Collector’s Edition or the Digital Deluxe Edition, you will end up getting to play the game early by a few days. Early access will open up on June 24.

The Collector’s Edition comes with quite a few extras

As it is a Collector’s Edition, it comes with more than just early access to the game two days before the official launch date. It’ll include several in-game items, including early unlocks of weapons and gear. There’s also a Collector’s box and a small 3-inch figure. The big item is a 15-inch figurine of an in-game entity that Kojima and the studio are calling “The Magellan Man.”

Additionally, those who pre-order the Collector’s Edition will get some art cards. As well as a letter from Kojima. The Collector’s Edition does not come with a physical copy of the game. Instead, it comes with a full digital download. You can see all of this briefly as it’s shown off during the SXSW panel.
