TikTok's new Security Checkup tool will help protect your account

The drama around the sale of TikTok’s operations in the US is intensifying. Last week, President Donald Trump stated that four bidders are willing to buy TikTok, with Oracle reportedly leading the race to seal the deal. While the American fate of the app is uncertain, the company isn’t hesitating to push new features to the platform. Yesterday, TikTok announced a new “Security Checkup” tool that allows users to enable all available security measures from a single screen.

TikTok has announced a new ‘Security Checkup’ tool to safeguard your account

The newly announced security tool is quite similar to that you see on your Instagram and Google accounts. If you’ve used them before, you should be familiar with all the new options available on TikTok. You can access the tool from your TikTok profile by selecting “Settings and Privacy” and tapping the “Security and Permissions” option.

As its name suggests, Security Checkup walks you through all of TikTok’s security features. The new tool encourages you to enable as many security features as possible to keep your TikTok account safe.

For example, you can link your phone number and email address to the TikTok app. This will ensure that you have a backup login method when you lose access to your account. If you log into your TikTok account from an unfamiliar device, you can also enable two-step verification for extra security.

The new tool advises users to take certain actions

TikTok’s new Security Checkup tool suggests monitoring the devices logged into your account. It also recommends removing the devices that you don’t recognize or no longer use. In addition, you’ll get suggestions to use different authentication methods like Face ID or Touch Unlock for a faster and more secure login experience.

The social media tech giant further notes that it actively monitors unusual account behavior and flags it in the “Security and permissions” settings. From there, you can review it and take suggested actions to protect your TikTok account.
