The Worx Auto Detailing business of Millbrook held an inaugural Auto Exposition Saturday at Village Green Park. With beautiful weather, and great attendance, organizers are already making plans for next year’s event.

While there were many amazing and interesting vehicles of all ages and models on display, it was two involving the owners of the vehicles, and the stories they told that gave us a deeper appreciation of the event. Everyone, even vehicles, can have a story.

We met Billy Brock, of Boones Chapel. He and his immaculately restored 1969 green Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 caught our eye. Billy’s father was Dennis Brock, who originally bought the car brand new. When Billy was 15, his father turned it over to him, but the two worked together over the years to restore it. When Dennis Brock passed, Billy brought in his son Kyle to help with restorations.  Kyle is a firefighter for the Prattville Fire Department. One day, he will take possession, Billy said. “But not just yet,” he added with a grin.

Sitting atop the engine was a photo of the original owner, Dennis Brock. In a large photo album were memories of years of restoration projects, and the love which has gone into the vehicle. The car has tremendous sentimental value, of course.

We also met Michael and Gail Davis, of Montgomery, with their minion-themed, brilliant yellow Jeep. Gail began to tell the story of the theme. The jeep is dedicated to their daughter, Zoe, who loved minions, but passed away earlier this year at the age of just 15.

Zoe was born prematurely, at just 11 ounces and 11 inches long. There were doubts from the start that she would survive, and she did have special needs for her short life. She loved taking rides in the jeep escaping out of her pink wheelchair. She would smile and wave her hands in the breeze on beautiful days.

Artwork on the jeep currently depicts Zoe, in her pink wheelchair. However, with Zoe’s passing, that imagery will be reimagined soon. It will soon show Zoe standing, arms raised, no longer bound to her chair. The couple hopes to have the new artwork completed for the Jeep in time for May 17. That is when they plan to celebrate what would have been Zoe’s sweet sixteenth birthday at Cooters Pond Park in Prattville.

Inside the Jeep are favorite items Zoe treasured, including stuffed animals. There is also a blanket featuring pictures of Zoe over the years.

These were just two stories we were able to capture in our short time at the event. We will edit this article with the final winners in all categories when possible.

So, when this event rolls around next year and if you attend, do more than admire the handiwork that went into the vehicles. Try to remember to ask about the story behind what you see.
