‘A soulless thing:’ Dog dumped from car on Surprise street caught on camera – Arizona's Family

SURPRISE, AZ (AZFamily) — A simple change in direction on an afternoon walk around a Surprise neighborhood led Joanna Buesen to be at the right place at the right time to witness something so wrong.

“I was angered. I was flabbergasted, shocked. Just so many emotions,” said Buesen.

The moment was caught on surveillance video Saturday around 12:16 p.m. by a neighbor’s camera pointing at Peoria Avenue, next to the desert.

In the video, the door of a red SUV opens, and a dog jumps out. The vehicle takes off, and the dog chases after it.

Beusen said she was walking her dog on a trail and witnessed the incident. She called out to the dog and tried consoling him.

“It was defeated. It was sad,” Beusen said.

What ticks Buesen off the most is the audio the camera picked up right before the dog was dumped.

A woman can be heard saying, “Bye, bye”.

“I think that they had no remorse for their actions, and I think that is the telltale that it is malicious intent,” said Buesen. “I understand things are hard and things can be tough in life, but you don’t have to be a soulless human. And that is just a soulless thing.”

Other neighbors Arizona’s Family talked with called the action “heartless.”

“We’ve seen them dumping all kinds of other things but not animals. That’s just. That’s a new level. A new level of just…ugh,” said Kim Igo.

Buesen said the dog was malnourished but well-behaved.

Maricopa County Animal Care and Control said the dog is currently with Surprise Animal Control, but MCACC could take the dog in.

Surprise police said they’ve been receiving numerous tips and are investigating. Animal cruelty is a felony in Arizona.

“Anything that’s innocent deserves justice. I honestly believe that,” said Buesen.
