Acer's new Aspire Vero 16 is made partially with oyster shells

Acer is bringing quite an intriguing and dare we say unique innovation to CES with the Aspire Vero 16 laptop. A tech device that’s made partially of oyster shells. To be more specific, Acer says that the Aspire Vero 16 is made with both plastic and bio-based oyster shell material. So Acer isn’t just tossing oyster shells into the mix when it builds the laptop. However the bio-based material is created, it also makes up a very small portion of the laptop’s outer body.

About 1% of the chassis uses this material. Meanwhile, about 3% of the palm rest and bottom cover use this material as well. The majority of the remaining percentage of those parts is post-consumer recycled plastic. In short, this laptop is Acer’s answer to sustainability and is meant to showcase its commitment to carbon neutrality. In addition, Acer says that the laptop is easy to repair. So if something goes wrong, the user can simply take it to get fixed or do the repairs themselves if they know how.

Alongside the Aspire Vero 16, there are the new Swift Go 14 and Swift Go 16 laptops that are being unveiled for CES this year. These laptops are designed to be thin and light machines making them perfect for portability. Acer says they’re equipped with either 3K OLED or 2K IPS touch displays, as well as Intel’s new Core Ultra 200H chips.

The Acer Aspire Vero 16 is all about sustainability

The Aspire Vero 16 takes an interesting approach to being carbon-neutral. But while the bio-based material used in the laptop’s body is perhaps the most interesting detail about it, it’s not the only thing that’s noteworthy. It’s durable and comes with an MIL-STD-810H certification, which means it’s designed to withstand the rigors of everyday use. It’s also powered by up to an Intel Core Ultra 7 255H CPU. Additionally, it can come with up to 32GB of RAM and up to 2TB of storage.

With Wi-Fi, HDMI 2.1, and two Thunderbolt 4 ports, the Aspire Vero 16 is ready to carry users into the future. And because it’s easy to repair, it should last for several years. Acer plans to launch this laptop in April of this year starting at $799.99.

With regards to the two new Swift laptops, the Swift Go 14 comes with a 14-inch display and can either be OLED or a non-OLED IPS touch display. The OLED models come with two resolution options, which are 2880 x 1800 or 1920 x 1200. The IPS touch model is 1920 x 1200. The Swift Go 16 has four OLED display options which include two at 2880 x 1800 configurations, one with a resolution of 2048 x 1200, and one that’s 1920 x 1200.

As for CPU and GPUs, both laptops use Intel Arc for graphics. They also both come with up to an Intel Core Ultra 9 285H CPU. Both come with up to 32GB of RAM. For storage, the Swift Go 14 comes with up to 1TB, while the 16-inch model comes with up to 2TB. As for pricing, the Swift Go 16 launches in April starting at $949.99, and the Swift Go 14 launches in May starting at $899.99.

Acer is also launching a new Wi-Fi 7 dongle

To help new laptop buyers connect to the internet anywhere, Acer is announcing a brand-new Wi-Fi 7 dongle called the Wave D7. This isn’t the company’s only new connectivity product either. It’s also announcing the Connect M6E 5G. This is a small Wi-Fi device that looks to be about the size of a power bank. The Connect M6E 5G has an 8,000mAh capacity and supports fast charging via USB-C. Acer says it can power everything from standard browsing to gaming.

All told it should last for up to 28 hours Acer says. As for the Wave D7, it’s a direct plug-and-play device so you don’t need to worry about battery life. It also has speeds of up to 2,800 Mbps. You can also slot it into an included base and plug the base into your laptop or desktop using a USB-C cable. Acer plans to launch both of these in Q1. The Connect M6E 5G starting at $249, and the Wave D7 at $79.
