Volvo ES90 will break covers at the company’s headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden.
Volvo is all geared up to unveil the next chapter of its electrification journey. The Swedish brand will officially unveil the upcoming ES90 to the world on 5 March 2025. The flagship electric sedan will eventually replace the current S90 from the lineup, and will be the first sedan and overall sixth model in Volvo’s global EV lineup.
This will happen shortly after the new Volvo XC90 will make its India debut on 4 March 2025. Volvo is racing against time to fulfill its commitment of becoming a full battery electric vehicle (BEV) manufacturer by the end of this decade. Ahead of its debut, the Swedish marque has teased the ES90 on its social media handles and website.
Volvo ES90: Software on wheels
Volvo ES90 will be the second EV after the EX90 in the lineup to be based on the brand’s SPA2 architecture. According to the teasers, the ES90’s silhouette will closely resemble its fossil-fueled sibling. Like all Volvo models, it will also feature an updated version of the brand’s signature Thor’s Hammer LED DRLs. Based on the Superset tech stack, the SPA2 architecture is a unified system of hardware and software modules coming together to support all future EVs.

Like all future Volvo EVs, the ES90 will be a software on wheels, managed by a high-performance computing system with Nvidia chips. In fact, the ES90 will be the first Volvo to integrate a dual Nvidia Drive AGX Orin setup surpassing the combination of a single Orin chip with an older Nvidia Drive AGX Xavier processor in the EX90. That said, current EX90 owners will also be able to upgrade to the newer software free of cost.
Volvo ES90: Safety & Powertrain
Safety has always been a priority for Volvo and hence the ES90 will come laced with Volvo’s latest safety and driver-assistance suite, known as Safe Space Technology which comprises twelve ultrasonic sensors, one LiDAR sensor, eight cameras, and five radar units. On top of this, it will also boast of a system that Volvo calls “advanced driver understanding system”.

Volvo ES90 shares the same powertrain as the EX90. The sedan draws its energy from a 111 kWh battery pack that promises a range of over 600 km in Chinese testing standards. It could be offered in a single-motor rear-wheel drive or a dual-motor, all-wheel drive configuration.
Volvo ES90: Will it come to India?
After its debut, the Volvo ES90 will go on sale in China first followed by other international markets later this year. In India, Volvo is looking to launch one EV every year going forward. Given India’s preference for SUVs, we believe that Volvo may launch the EX90 and EX60 before the ES90. Therefore, it may take at least two years before the ES90 lands in India.
