Android 15 brings the Pixel Weather app to more devices

Today is the day that Android 15 makes it to eager Android users! Google brought a handful of new features to its phones that people will be able to try out. Among the new features, Android 15 brings the Pixel Weather app to more devices.

This is an app that really made waves when it was released for Pixel 9 devices. Pixel users previously got their weather updates through the Google app which offered a pretty good overview of the weather. However, the company decided to take this tool even further. It launched a dedicated app that brings a much more detailed and robust experience.

The Pixel Weather app is making it to more phones via Android 15

If you use a Pixel 6 or newer, then you should expect the Android 15 update to hit your phone soon, depending on your region. With it, you’re getting features like the Theft Detection, Private Space, and more.

Among the goodies, Pixel 6, Pixel 7, and Pixel 8 users are getting an app that was exclusive to Pixel 9 devices. The Pixel Weather app solves some of the problems that the older solution had. Firstly, it has an app icon which makes it easier to access your weather. No more jumping through hoops like typing “weather” in the search bar or tapping on the notification.

When you open the weather app, you’ll see all sorts of information in a vertically scrolling feed. Each section will be housed in a Material You-style rounded rectangle. For example, you’ll see the hourly forecast with the 10-day forecast right under it. Next, it will show you other stats like precipitation, wind speed, sunrise/sunset, UV index, visibility, humidity, and atmospheric pressure. Each of these items sits in its own little UI element.

What’s neat is that, depending on your current weather condition, you’ll see an animation in the background. If it’s raining in your location, you’ll see a little rain animation in the background, for example.

This is a Google app, so you know that there has to be some AI goodness. At the very top of the feed, you’ll see an AI Overview-style weather report. This will be an AI-generated weather report that takes information from your current conditions and forecasts to give you an overview of your day.

Other neat things

The Pixel Weather app is nice, and it brings some nice extras. Firstly, the app will send you relevant notifications about your weather conditions. This way, you’ll be able to keep up to date on everything just in case weather conditions get bad.

Next, this app brings new widgets that show you information like the forecasts. A small 3×2  widget will tell you the temperature and current conditions. Also, a larger 4×2 widget will show you your hourly forecast along with the forecast for the next couple of days.
