For years, Android phones have given users the ability to create separate user profiles for phones. This way, people can keep their files and apps safe when letting someone else use their device. Switching between these user profiles isn’t all that hard, but it could be easier. Well, the Android 16 Beta 2 just launched, and it brings a new widget that lets people more easily switch users.
In case you didn’t know, Google just released the latest version of the Android 16 beta, and it’s already brought some useful additions to the software. For instance, the update brought the ability to double-press the power button to open the wallet app. This is something that you’d love if you typically pay using Google Pay. Users can easily assign the function in the new Double-press power button menu. Who knows if Google will add other functions in the future?
Android 16 has a widget to change users
Let’s be honest, changing users wasn’t exactly a challenge before. You would summon the notification shade and tap on the profile icon. Then, you would just select the profile you want to sign in to. Easy-peasy lemon squeezy. However, Google must have felt that it needed to be even easier to do.
According to the report, Google has added a new widget in Android 16 that will make switching users quicker and easier. The widget is just called Users, and it covers a 2 x 2 area on the screen. The widget itself will display the profile pictures of the people who have accounts on the device. If there is only one user, then you’ll see your profile next to the option to add a new user.

So, switching users will be as simple as just tapping on the profile picture of the one you want to switch to. In order to use this widget, you’ll need to install the latest beta build of Android 16. You will need to go to the Android beta page and sign up for it. Just familiarize yourself with the risks associated with jumping onto the beta.
