Anker 140W USB-C Charger Review: Power Up!

Those of you who remember the ancient MicroUSB chargers at the start of the Android era will know how painful charging your smartphone used to be regarding speed and the cursed nature of the MicroUSB port. Thankfully, times have changed, and we now have technologically advanced charging solutions such as Anker’s 140W USB-C Charger, which even sports a digital display to show all sorts of handy information.

I’ve had my mitts on a review unit for the past month, so join me after the break for my thoughts on the Anker 140W USB-C Charger.

Design

At first glance, it looks just like a regular, if slightly chunky, wall charger with a selection of charging ports. Look a little closer, and you’ll notice the circular control that controls the display just above, which is only noticeable when the device is plugged in.

Unlike most wall chargers, its USB ports are located on the underside, which means no cables are sticking out, which helps make it look tidier than its rivals. There is a tiny downside to this in that it can be fiddly to insert and detach cables from the charger when plugged into the wall outlet.

On the charger’s side is Anker’s logo and a decal saying it offers 140W of output.

The UK charging model doesn’t lend itself to sleek and light designs, but Anker has managed to get the trio of tongs to retract into the base, which means that it won’t snag on cables in your bag.

Note: It’s also available in the US with the appropriate American prongs.

As mentioned, the 140W USB-C Wall Charger is chunky; using it on a power switch such as the one above will cause it to tilt over somewhat. It’s perfectly fine on wall outlets and regular power strips, though.

When it comes to its primary purpose, which is providing power to your phone, tablet, laptop, or anything else that draws power via a USB-A or USB-C port, Anker’s wall charger does it with aplomb.

There’s a pair of USB-C ports (PD 3.1) capable of outputting 140W, which is good enough for most laptops, with Anker claiming a 50% charge for 15-inch MacBook Airs in just 30 minutes. Accompanying this is a third Type-C port with 40W output and a legacy USB-A port with 33W. This means you are covered for just about every eventuality, whether you use Android, Windows, or Apple products.

When charging four devices, the total output will be reduced to 134W and you’ll get 65W from a PD 3.1 port, 45W from the other, and then 12W each from the remaining Type-C and Type-A ports.

The box includes a handy 5-foot USB-C charging cable that can handle outputs of up to 240W. It’s a reasonable length of cable to have available, and its threaded feel makes it all the nicer to hold.

While some chargers can lean back from the outlet when you attach cables, Anker’s 140W Wall Charger stays glued to the outlet and doesn’t budge at all. It’s a small but noticeable and appreciated feature and means the device you are charging will actually be charged.

Display

Besides showing smiley faces, the display is useful for seeing just how much charge your devices are drawing. Press the round button to switch between the various modes to see how long you’ve used the charger and how much power is being sent to each connected device.

The above slide shows that one of the USB-C ports is drawing 57W out of a possible 140W, which means that there’s 83W of output available.

Besides showing how much wattage is being outputted in total, the display also informs you of its operating temperature, which, in this case, is excellent.

If you plug the charger in a side-ways oriented outlet, long-pressing the round button will change the orientation by 90 degrees each time, so there’s no need to twist your head to read the information shown.

Anker’s 140W Wall Charger has accompanied me on a couple of work trips so far in 2025, and each time, it’s performed admirably, so much so that it’s now the default charger in my backpack.

At $89/£89, Anker’s 140W Wall Charger is reasonably priced and offers great value over rivals such as Ugreen’s 160W Nexode Pro, which costs $30 more but without the downward-facing sockets and helpful display. You can pick up Anker’s 140W Wall Charger directly from Anker as well as Amazon via the links below.
