Another Year, Another Set of New Features for a Better WhatsApp

WhatsApp recently celebrated its milestone of hitting 100 million users in the great USA, which, considering how big a market the US is for digital products, seems small. WhatsApp has more than 2 billion active monthly users across the globe, but for the longest time, the US audience has preferred alternatives like Messenger and iMessage.

Regardless, WhatsApp remains a massive application outside the US, and as a result, it is almost constantly going through changes and adding new features to the mix. Yesterday, the team announced a bunch of new features to make your conversations in the app a little more fun.

Ever since my earliest days messing around with Android, I’ve been a WhatsApp kind of guy, and if you are too, you’ll probably love to see new features being added to the app. It’s transformed quite significantly over the years, and very rarely will I say that the team has added a “bad” feature to the mix—though it did take me some time to get used to the Status feature.

Well, today is one of those days that the team has come to announce a slew of new features being added to the app, and for the most part, I like them all. Let’s dive into the changes.

Do you know how you can add backgrounds, effects, and filters when you’re on a video call with someone on WhatsApp? Well, WhatsApp is going to be bringing that functionality to regular video and photos that you take from inside the app.

The best part is that you get access to the exact same effects that have always been available in video calls, so that means you don’t need to lose out on the ones that you consider favorites.

Your Selfies Can Become Stickers a Lot Easier

If there’s one thing that I might be too old to get the hang of in WhatsApp, it’s stickers. I’m a simple man, so emojis do the job for me, but I know several people who absolutely love collecting and using stickers to express their emotions at the right moments.

If you’re one of those folks and you need a custom sticker to add to the conversation, you can now turn a selfie of yourself straight into a sticker from the Create Sticker feature.

Sharing Sticker Packs with Friends Is Straightforward

Still, for the people who love WhatsApp stickers, it is now going to be even easier to share some of that sticker love with your other sticker-loving friends. WhatsApp has introduced a new feature to let you share entire sticker packs with a friend, right in your messages.

A Double-Tap Is Enough to React to Messages

Message reactions have been around for some time in WhatsApp, but now, you’ll be able to more easily react to messages that your friends send by double-tapping that message. That will instantly bring up the little bar with your most-used reactions, letting you show your loved ones how you feel even quicker.
