A folding iPhone could be thin and expensive, a new report claims. It says that it will be a true AI-driven phone, so it could be a timely update from Apple. The report offers clues on the design and it could mean the most annoying thing in every folding phone so far—the unmissable crease where the two halves of the fold join—is overcome.
Apple is reported to be working on a folding iPhone.
The report comes from Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst at TFI Securities, who is widely respected for his insights and knowledge. Here’s what’s predicted.
iPhone Fold Design And Cameras
The design will be in the style of a fold rather than a flip phone, it’s claimed. “The foldable iPhone will have a book-style design, featuring an approximately 7.8-inch crease-free inner display and an approximately 5.5-inch outer display.
It will measure 9–9.5mm thick when folded and 4.5–4.8mm when unfolded,” Kuo said.
Crease-free, you notice. That is the holy grail for folding phones, or at least, it hasn’t quite happened yet, though there have been improvements.
The hinge will be made of stainless steel and titanium alloy, with titanium alloy casing. Touch ID will return to the iPhone in the side button, it’s thought.
The thickness would mean it comes close to the Oppo Find N5, the current thinnest phone which is 4.2mm thick.
iPhone Fold Release Date
Although “final specs will be locked in 2Q25,” that is between April and June this year, the project will officially kick off between July and September 2025. However, mass production is said to be in the last quarter next year, perhaps coming as a late arrival after iPhone 18 devices.
iPhone Fold Price
Maybe it’s good that there’s a way to go before it arrives, because we might need time to save up. “The first-generation foldable iPhone is expected to retail above $2,000 and $2,500. Leveraging the iPhone’s status as a must-have device and Apple’s loyal fanbase, it’s expected to generate strong replacement demand—despite the premium price—provided quality meets expectations,” Kuo says.
