The iPad Air has been in the news since the start of 2024, thanks to multiple rumors suggesting it of getting a new kind of display. Earlier this year, a researcher claimed that the iPad Air will get a boost with an OLED display in 2028. Now, a new rumor suggests that Apple is developing a 90Hz display tech for iPad Air, Studio Display, and a 24-inch iMac.
Apple is working on 90Hz display tech for next-gen M3 iPad Air, iMac & Studio Display
An anonymous source reached out to Myke Hurley and Jason Snell from the Upgrade podcast yesterday with details regarding the rumored display for iPad Air. The tipster claims that “Apple is working on a higher refresh rate LCD display with a new liquid motion panel fixed at around 90Hz.”
The tipster also hints that the 90Hz display tech will debut on the next-generation M3 iPad Air. But, Apple will eventually “expand it to other models or products like the 24-inch iMac and Studio Display.”
Not to forget, we’ve been hearing rumors about the entire iPhone 17 lineup featuring ProMotion displays with 120Hz refresh rate. However, this is the first we’ve heard about Apple working on a 90Hz display tech for its other products.
The new iPad Air with upgraded display could debut early next year
It’s worth noting that all the devices mentioned by the tipster currently sport displays with a 60Hz refresh rate. The upgraded 90Hz display may not bring a significant improvement in user experience as a 120Hz panel. However, it will still be better than 60Hz and might be welcomed by the users.
Mark Gurman has previously hinted that the Cupertino tech giant could launch the next-gen iPad Air early next year. Therefore, we might see an iPad Air with a higher refresh rate in just a few months. Besides, you can expect to see a 24-inch iMac with an upgraded display in late 2025. Moreover, we don’t know when the next-gen Studio Display will come out due to the lack of solid rumors.
