Bigger is better, according to Apple at least. The company is reportedly doing away with miniature models of its iPhones, and will instead focus on making larger options.
When touching on the subject, Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman (a trusted source close to Apple) said that the company had no plans to continue making mini versions of any iPhone in the future.
“They’re not working on a smaller iPhone right now,” Gurman said in a livestreamed Q&A. “They’ve really shifted away. They’re trying to make that, you know, roughly 6-inch display that is the base size, and they’re just trying to go bigger and bigger and bigger. And the bigger you go, the smaller the 6-inch phones feel.”
Apple first debuted a 4.7-inch display with the iPhone SE in 2016, followed by the iPhone 12 Mini in 2020. The brand later refreshed the iPhone 12 mini in 2021 with the iPhone 13 mini, still keeping the 5.4-inch display that the original had.
Apple stopped selling and distributing the iPhone 12 Mini in 2022, and the iPhone 13 Mini also met a similar fate in 2023. More recently, the brand halted production of the iPhone SE in February of this year. This means you currently can’t buy any new mini iPhone models.
While a new iPhone is expected to release this year, this news does confirm that a miniature version of it won’t be on the roster. In fact, the same Bloomberg Q&A also confirmed that Apple is working on a foldable iPhone—but there’s no word on whether this will release this year.
This may be bad news to those with smaller hands—or people who just happen to love smaller smartphones in general. If that’s the case, then it’s worth noting that refurbished options of the iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 13 Mini, and the iPhone SE are available on Amazon.
While obviously not new, these refurbished options are “professionally inspected, tested and cleaned by Amazon-qualified suppliers.” Check out available options below.
