Apple is reportedly preparing to expand its News app to additional countries, according to a report by the Financial Times. The report suggests that Apple is actively developing plans to introduce Apple News beyond its current markets of the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia.
The Financial Times states that Apple is “stepping up” its expansion efforts, aiming to capitalize on the increased advertising revenue generated through the platform. This revenue comes from both in-app advertisements and the premium Apple News+ subscription service.
While the report does not specify which countries might be next in line, it notes that Apple is exploring ways to bring more of the News app’s U.S.-exclusive features, such as News+ word games and Sudoku puzzles, to the U.K. and potentially other regions.
Apple first introduced its News app in 2015 alongside the release of iOS 9. Currently, the app reaches an estimated 125 million users monthly, contributing to Apple’s fast-growing services division. This segment, which also includes Apple TV+, Apple Music, and Apple Pay, collectively generates about $96 billion annually.
