Apple Martin appears unfazed by the recent “mean girl” accusations that followed her debutante ball.
The 20-year-old — who is the daughter of Coldplay’s Chris Martin and actress Gwyneth Paltrow — made her public debut at Le Bal des Débutantes in Paris, France earlier this month. Pictures and videos from the lavish, star-studded event went viral online. While many fans raved over Apple‘s custom blue Valentino dress, which she accessorized with a large silk bow, some people read too deeply into her body language.
A few people noticed that Apple appeared to roll her eyes at her date in a moment caught on camera and shared to TikTok. In another moment, she was evidently seen edging her way into a photo, thus taking the spotlight from another girl making their public debut. The clips then prompted several people accusing Apple of being a “mean girl” in the comments.
In a video shared to TikTok on Tuesday, December 17 by Apple’s friend, Ava Crox — a video which has since been deleted, per Daily Mail — Apple seemingly addresses the mean girl allegations by lip-syncing over an audio.
“I mean… I don’t know how anyone has a problem with us,” Apple mouths over the sound byte.
“We are two of the funniest girls and I know us, like offline,” lip-synced another one of Apple’s friends, with Apple giving said friend a dirty look before the camera cut to Crox.
When I tell you, there aren’t two more caring, charitable, generous, kind…” Crox mouthed.
Apple was one of 20 girls to celebrate their debut at Le Bal des Débutantes that weekend. After accusations surrounding her behavior began to pour in, a representative from Paltrow’s camp issued a statement to Daily Mail.
“Apple’s more playful and fun and she’s really a total girls’ girl,” said the source. “She would never mean to take the spotlight from anyone, that was not her intention. To characterize her as a mean girl is very untrue.”
