If you have had multiple Apple IDs over the years and have digital purchases spread across those accounts, the new feature that Apple introduced allows users to have their entire purchases under one account, and this does not result in them losing access to the previous purchases. Apple has recently published a support document that sheds more light on the process of transferring purchases to one primary Apple ID.
This new feature holds value for users with separate Apple IDs for varied tasks, such as different ones for iCloud and others kept for purchasing. Content management is simplified by taking away the need to constantly switch between accounts for accessing past purchases. Now, while the migration process is made easier, Apple is ensuring certain requirements are followed to carry out the process to ensure security and ownership verification. These requirements include a primary email address, phone number, and password. In addition to this, two-step authentication is also to be enabled. The accounts should strictly not be shared with others through the Family Sharing option.
If you are looking into opting for the merging accounts option, you first need to go through Apple’s checklist to ensure all the requirements are met and to know the process of migration. The process can be initiated by opening the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad. You have to go to Media & Purchases, tap on the View Account option, and finally opt for Migrate Purchases. Once the migration is complete, you can no longer use the secondary account to make purchases, and you will need to sign in with the primary account instead.
