Apple stock rose sharply Tuesday on a report that the company has partnered with e-commerce firm Alibaba to bring Apple Intelligence services to its Macs, iPhones, and iPads in China.

Patrick Seitz for Investor’s Business Daily:

The Information reported that Apple and Alibaba have already submitted the Chinese AI features they codeveloped for approval by China’s cyberspace regulator.

Apple previously worked with Baidu, but was dissatisfied with the models the Chinese search giant had developed for Apple Intelligence, The Information said. Apple also had considered AI models from China’s Tencent, ByteDance, and DeepSeek, the report said.

Apple says it plans to introduce AI features in non-English speaking markets, including China, in April.

MacDailyNews Take: Good news for Apple and for iPhone sales in China, but as we wrote last November, “Apple Intelligence in China will be highly censored and rather limited; it will only spit back the approved narratives of the Chinese Communist Party.” The Chinese people are, unfortunately, acclimated to censorship and a lack of freedom, so iPhone sales will increase with the advent of Apple Intelligence in China, regardless of the limitations placed upon it by the Chinese Communist Party.
