Apple starts rolling out Tap to Pay to nine more countries – Appleosophy

Apple launched “Tap to Pay” for iPhone back in February of 2022, which facilitated users in the United States with the ability to receive contactless payments via a debit or credit card, in addition to Apple Pay. This feature is essentially a replacement for typical card machines, using NFC technology that’s built into the iPhone. If a customer has a security PIN added to the card, the receiver’s iPhone can verify the PIN and process the payment accordingly.

Moreover, Apple claims that all transactions done with Tap to Pay are encrypted and processed on device — so even Apple does not have access to the said data.

Since it’s debut in 2022, it has gradually rolled out to several regions — with it rolling out to nine European countries starting today.

According to Apple, these payment services are / will be available:

  • Bulgaria: Adyen, myPOS, Revolut and Viva; soon SumUp
  • Finland: Adyen, Mollie, Nets, Revolut, Stripe, SumUp and Viva; coming soon Surfboard Payments
  • Hungary: Adyen, Global Payments, myPOS, Revolut, SumUp, Viva and Worldline
  • Liechtenstein: Adyen
  • Poland: Adyen, eService and PKO Bank Polski, Mollie, Stripe, SumUp, Viva and Worldline; soon Planet Pay, Revolut and PeP (part of the Nexi Group)

  • Slovenia: Adyen, Revolut and Worldline; soon SumUp and hobex
  • Switzerland: Adyen, Mollie, myPOS, Nexi, Stripe, SumUp and Worldline; soon hobex

For this feature to work, the receiver needs to have a compatible iOS app installed on an iPhone XS or later running the latest version of iOS, according to Apple.
