Apple TV+ has gained a strong reputation for its lineup of sci-fi shows, including its new most popular series ever: Severance. Now, the company has just announced the release date for its next big sci-fi show. It’s called Murderbot, and it hits Apple TV+ this spring.
Murderbot premieres in May with first season
Murderbot is a new Apple TV+ sci-fi comedic thriller based on the hit book series The Murderbot Diaries. It stars Alexander Skarsgård.
Apple TV+ just announced that Murderbot’s 10-episode season will premiere on Friday, May 16. The first two episodes will be available then, with weekly drops through July 11.
Here’s the series description:
Based on Martha Wells’ bestselling Hugo and Nebula Award-winning book series, “Murderbot” is a sci-fi thriller/comedy about a self-hacking security construct who is horrified by human emotion yet drawn to its vulnerable clients. Murderbot must hide its free will and complete a dangerous assignment when all it really wants is to be left alone to watch futuristic soap operas and figure out its place in the universe.
The series hails from Chris and Paul Weitz, who were behind the acclaimed film About a Boy and Prime Video’s hit show Mozart in the Jungle.
Murderbot Diaries offers lots of potential for expansive Apple TV+ run
If you want to get a head start reading the inspiration for the new TV+ show, the first book of The Murderbot Diaries is called All Systems Red, which you can pick up on Apple Books.
It’s a pretty short, easy read, and can give you a taste of what to expect before the show’s May premiere. And assuming you like it, there are plenty of extra books to keep you busy—and to give Apple abundant material for future seasons of the Murderbot show.
