Is Apple TV+ Worth Trying?

For free, I definitely think so. I’ve had Apple TV+ for a few years now and there are a number of shows I recommend to people.

First and foremost, Severance. That’s the crown jewel of the catalog. Season 2 premieres on January 17th, after three long years. What’s it about? A company has figured out how to divide (sever) the memories of its employees. So when you’re at work, you don’t know anything about your life at home. And when you’re at home, you don’t know anything about your life at work. They tout it as a way to achieve better work-life balance, but, of course, something more nefarious seems to be going on.

We Are In a Psychological Sci-Fi And Horror Revolution In Gaming

It’s a great time to be a fan of psychological horror.

With that said, I think Shrinking is the best show on Apple TV. The comedy drama stars Jason Segal and Harrison Ford as therapists. It’s by Bill Lawrence, who created Spin City, Scrubs, Cougar Town, and Ted Lasso (another Apple TV show). And there’s just the perfect amount of tension and humor. Every episode has me alternating between laughing and crying. Even when I’m crying, I’m laughing. It’s incredibly likable and comforting.

And then you have some cool prestige miniseries. The Shrink Next Door with Paul Rudd and Will Ferrell. Brie Larson’s Lessons in Chemistry. Cate Blanchett puts on a masterclass in Alfonso Cuarón’s Disclaimer. And then Jake Gyllenhaal in the murder mystery Presumed Innocent.

If you only have time to binge one show, I’d go with Shrinking. Season 2 just ended, so you’ll get a pretty satisfying sense of conclusion, as opposed to Severance, where you’ll feel compelled to subscribe to see what happens on January 17th (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing).
