Apple TV+ Sets Docuseries on 2024 World Series (EXCLUSIVE) – Variety


Apple TV+ is stepping up to the plate for a three-part docuseries on the 2024 World Series, Variety has learned exclusively.

Production on the series is already underway. It will offer fans exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the teams vying for the Major League Baseball (MLB) championship, including interviews with players, coaches, journalists, fans, and family members.

The show is produced under the partnership between MLB and its MLB Studios label and Imagine Documentaries. Emmy winner R.J. Cutler is directing and executive producing under his This Machine banner, which is set up at Sony Pictures Television. Five-time World Series champion Derek Jeter is also executive producing via Cap 2 Productions. Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, Nick Trotta, Justin Wilkes, Sara Bernstein, Marc Gilbar, Mark Blatty, Trevor Smith, and Justin Yungfleisch also executive produce.

Apple TV+ is also the exclusive home of “Friday Night Baseball, ” a weekly doubleheader streaming every Friday throughout the regular season.

At the time of this publishing, the New York Yankees lead the Cleveland Guardians 2-0 in the ALCS Championship series, while the Los Angeles Dodgers lead the New York Mets 2-1 in the NLCS Championship series.

This is the latest sports documentary under the Apple TV+ umbrella. The streaming arm of the tech giant also currently airs “The Dynasty: New England Patriots” (another Imagine Documentaries production) as well as “Messi’s World Cup: The Rise of a Legend,” and “Stephen Curry: Underrated.” Apple TV+ is also currently prepping an untitled film about the life and carerr of Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton.
