Apple TV+ has acquired global rights to Spanish rom-com series Love You to Death.
The streamer has acquired rights to the seven-ep series, which is from Spanish broadcaster Atresmedia TV and created by director Dani de la Orden (Casa en Flames). It will debut on Apple TV+ globally on Wednesday, February 5, 20205, with two episodes, followed by new ones each week until March 12.
Series stars Verónica Echegui (Orígenes Secretos) and Joan Amargós (Show Yourself) as a pair of friends who strike up an unlikely romance. Plot follows the cautious Raúl (Amargós), who reconnects with free-spirited and newly pregnant Marta (Echegui), after he receives a heart cancer diagnosis. They resume a childhood friendship, and in a relationship brought together by fate, begin to test their beliefs about love.
Paula Malia (Valeria), Cristian Valencia (Barcelona Christmas Night), Claudia Melo (Love is Forever), Roger Coma (Grand Hotel), Joan Solé (Cardo), Julián Villagrán (The Snow Girl) and David Bagés (The Last Night at Tremore Beach) are also part of an ensemble cast.
De la Orden, Montse Garcia, Ana Eiras and Elena Bort are the executive producers. Atresmedia, which operates local streamer Atresplayer, made the show in collaboration with Sábado Películas, DeAPlaneta and Playtime Movies.
For Apple TV+, the acquisition is its latest Spanish-language series, coming after Eugenio Derbez comedy Acapulco, crime drama Women in Blue (Las Azules) and Land of Women, which was exec produced by Eva Longoria. Also on the slate are Midnight Family, a medical drama based on documentary Familia de Medianoche, and Tú También lo Harías (You Would Do it Too), a thriller starring Ana Polvorosa, Michelle Jenner, Pablo Molinero and José Manuel Poga.
