Apple TV+'s New Thriller Series Debuts With One Of The Lowest Rotten Tomatoes Scores For Streamer – Screen Rant

Apple TV+‘s new thriller debuts with one of the lowest Rotten Tomatoes scores for the streamer. Since its launch in 2019, the streaming service has produced several original shows that have received acclaim from critics and, in turn, strong scores on Rotten Tomatoes. Slow Horses, which has aired four seasons, Pachinko, which has aired two, and the six-episode miniseries Blackbird are all tied for Apple TV’s highest Rotten Tomatoes score at 98%. Severance, which recently premiered its second season, is also near the top at 96%.

However, the streaming service hasn’t been immune to critical flops. Their psychological thriller miniseries Before, starring Billy Crystal, was panned by critics and stands as one of Apple TV’s lowest Rotten Tomatoes scores at 32%. The Crowded Room, starring Tom Holland, also received largely negative reviews from critics and is in the same company as Before with a 33% score. However, Apple TV’s new thriller, which premiered on January 22, has debuted even lower and could end up being below both scores.

Prime Target Debuts With One Of Apple TV’s Lowest Rotten Tomatoes Scores

The Thriller Stars Leo Woodall & Quintessa Swindell

Prime Target has debuted with one of Apple TV’s lowest Rotten Tomatoes scores. Created by Steve Thompson, Apple TV’s new thriller miniseries follows a post-graduate mathematics student who uncovers a plot to sabotage his research on prime number patterns that would grant him access to every computer worldwide. The White Lotus season 2 star Leo Woodall and Black Adam‘s Quintessa Swindell lead Prime Target‘s cast alongside Sidse Babett Knudsen, David Morrissey, Stephen Rea, Fra Fee, Joseph Mydell, and Jason Flemyng.

Prime Target Episode 2 Ending Explained: Who Is After Ed & Taylah?

Prime Target’s episodes 1 and 2 not only raise many questions about the role of the prime numbers Ed has been working on but also who attacks Taylah.

Now, on the day of its premiere, Prime Target has debuted to a 31% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The miniseries only has 13 reviews at the time of writing, so the score is subject to change as more are published. However, if it stays lower than 32%, it will become Apple TV’s lowest-rated show on Rotten Tomatoes.

What Prime Target’s Rotten Tomatoes Score Means For The Show

What Are The Reviews Saying?

Prime Target‘s Rotten Tomatoes score indicates largely negative reviews from critics, who are calling it a self-serious yet predictable espionage thriller that struggles with logical gaps, unlikable characters, and a lack of excitement – though a few find it entertaining despite its flaws. For instance, ScreenRant‘s Greg MacArthur gave the miniseries seven out of 10 stars, saying in their Prime Target review that they “couldn’t stop thinking about other high-concept actioners while watching” it. That is exactly what Prime Target appears to be – a conspiracy thriller standing on the shoulders of better stories about brilliant mathematicians like A Beautiful Mind.

Prime Target airs new episodes every Wednesday on Apple TV+.
