Apple's foldable iPhone could have impressive battery life

Battery life is important for smartphones, but more so for foldables. This is because foldables essentially have much larger displays—and even two displays in several cases—which ultimately drains more battery than regular smartphones. The Oppo Find N5 is currently our top pick for a foldable with killer battery life, but Apple’s upcoming foldable iPhone could potentially rival it.

Better battery life

According to a recent post on Naver by “yeux1122,” Apple’s rumored foldable iPhone could boast impressive battery life. This is despite the fact that Apple is emphasizing the thinness of the device. Usually, phones that are thin require some compromise, which more often than not comes at the expense of battery.

However, the post claims that Apple has achieved impressive battery life thanks to its use of the display driver IC. Apple apparently refined the component so that it allows for thinner panel assemblies. It also has the added advantage of lower heat output and reduced power consumption. This means that overall, the battery life on Apple’s foldable iPhone should last longer.

Liquid metal hinge

Apple will launch its foldable iPhone in 2026, according to reports. So far, the rumors are saying phone will feature a 7.8-inch display when fully opened and a 5.5-inch cover screen. While it isn’t as thin compared to other foldables, like the Find N5 and the Honor Magic V3, Apple is trying to get it as thin as possible.

A recent report from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that Apple will use liquid metal in the hinges of the phone. Apple has used liquid metal before, although only for the SIM card ejector tool. So, assuming this report is accurate, it will be the first time Apple is using liquid metal in a key phone component.

Foldable iPad incoming

In addition to the foldable iPhone, Apple is also rumored to launch a foldable iPad. This device could sport a massive 18-inch foldable display. This suggests that Apple has plans to potentially position this iPad as a laptop replacement. However, given the nature of foldable displays, we’d hate to think how much this foldable iPad could cost.

Last we heard, the foldable iPhone is rumored to cost around $2,000. This is in line with other book-like foldables, like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, which sits close to the $2,000 mark.
