Apple's Giant 18.8-inch Foldable Rumored to Feature Under-Display Face ID – iClarified

Apple’s rumored giant foldable device allegedly features under-display Face ID, according to leaker Digital Chat Station.

In a post on Weibo, the leaker claims Apple has an engineering prototype of an 18.8-inch foldable iPad Pro. The prototype is said to feature a metal metamaterial lens, which integrates both Face ID sensors (Rx and Tx) under the display for seamless 3D facial recognition.

Apple also has a Foldable iPad Pro prototype with an 18.8-inch display, featuring a metallic superstructure lens. This technology primarily integrates Face ID Rx and Tx for under-display 3D facial recognition.

This 18.8-inch size aligns with previous reports about Apple’s foldable plans.

Last year, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed Apple settled on an 18.8-inch display for a foldable MacBook after scrapping a larger 20.25-inch version, though production delays have purportedly pushed that timeline to 2027 or 2028.

Mark Gurman has said that Apple is working on a giant foldable iPad, also eyeing a 2028 release, with efforts focused on minimizing the display crease.

The consistency in screen size across these leaks suggests Apple is honing in on a specific form factor; however, it’s unclear if the device will be presented as part of the company’s iPad lineup or MacBook lineup.
