Apple's M4 MacBook Air Is Coming With Massive Upgrades, Enough to Convince M3 Users For a Switch – Tech Times

Most of the computers from Apple‘s lineup have already upgraded to the M4, and only the MacBook Air remains with the M3 as its most advanced model in the market, but that is set to change real soon. An M4 MacBook Air is on its way according to rumors, and with it comes a suite of massive upgrades for the beloved slim laptop from Cupertino, including one that has been widely requested by users.

There is one specific change that MacBook Air users have asked for from Apple to be included in the different models that arrived, and while Cupertino already gave the feature, there are still some limitations to it.

Apple M4 MacBook Pro To Deliver This Much-Requested Feature

One of the top requested features to arrive for the MacBook Air lineup is its support for external displays, and while Apple already delivered on this with 2024’s M3 MacBook Air release, this did not yet meet what fans wanted. According to 9to5Mac, the upcoming M4 MacBook Air upgrade from the Big Tech company is set to deliver an extended experience for its external display support compared to its previous version.

The M3 MacBook Air may have given users a chance to connect the computer to two external displays, but the problem is that it would only work if the laptop’s lid is closed, or when it is in clamshell mode.

However, for users who want to use the MacBook Air as the third or primary display, it is unavailable as it would not work as intended. That being said, Apple is set to change this experience come the M4 MacBook Air’s release, essentially offering three displays available for users.

More Upgrades Coming To the M4 MacBook Air

The upcoming upgrades for the M4 MacBook Air are set to deliver massive experiences for users once it arrives, and it is expected to be Apple’s first release for 2025 as it usually happens during the first quarter of the year. While it is expected to get a performance boost as it is getting the latest base M4 chipset, this improvement on the external display support is also another plus for the device, enough to convince users to make a switch from older versions of the computer.

The M4 Standard: Apple’s Massive Upgrades

Apple gave the world what they had been waiting for in terms of Cupertino’s computers last October with the ‘Scary Fast’ event, sharing with the world its latest M4 chipset for the Mac lineup. Three of the computers from Apple received the M4 treatment including the MacBook Pro which got the M4 Pro and M4 Max; the Mac mini which received an M4 Pro chip and a size reduction; and the iMac.

The main focus of the M4 releases from Cupertino is highlighting that these devices were made for Apple Intelligence, making them the dedicated tech for their latest machine learning model powering their experiences. That being said, Apple skipped one of its most beloved laptops in this massive M4 upgrade, as the MacBook Air remained with the M3 chipset, unlike its siblings.

However, Apple is not skipping the MacBook Air with an M4 upgrade, and it is a device meant for release this 2025 which would not wait for the M5 chip to deliver its latest upgrades to the public. It is still expected that the M4 MacBook Air will deliver its 13-inch and 15-inch variants, but the most requested external display support expansion is set to arrive alongside its new features and experiences.
