The latest upgrades for Siri are not yet at the level that Apple wants, and rumors have pointed to a delayed release for the upgraded assistant, which will now reportedly take place in 2027.
An analyst has claimed that this so-called “modernized” Siri is still years away, and it will reportedly be available come the iOS 20 version of the iPhone’s operating system.
It should be noted that there will still be upgrades coming to the present version of Siri for the latest iOS 18.
Apple’s ‘Modernized’ Siri Reportedly Delayed to 2027
The latest Power On newsletter by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman discussed the latest state of Siri for Apple devices, claiming that it is not yet the version that can offer massive upgrades to users. Instead, this said “true modernized, conversational version of Siri” will reportedly be available in 2027, with this being the earliest timeline for the much-awaited upgrade for the AI assistant.
Gurman said that while Apple is already planning to release an LLM-powered version of Siri with the upcoming iOS 18.5, this is not yet the promised version that entirely revamps the assistant’s capabilities.
Moreover, the analyst has revealed that it will not be as “smooth” running as expected, and it will be running as a separate model from the old or original version of Apple’s AI assistant that has been available for years.
iOS 20 to Bring ‘Real’ Siri Upgrades, AI Advancement
The reported “real” upgrade for Siri will be combining the architecture of both the old and the new, and it will fuse generative AI and its classic experiences into one. This specific version will be introduced via iOS 19.4, says Gurman, but this will still be “running behind” and will not be unveiled until the next WWDC.
That being said, it is expected to fully mature come iOS 20, with features like contextual understanding, autonomy, and more.
Siri and Its Current State via iOS 18
Apple gave its entire iOS the revamp it badly needed to catch up with rivals in the market when it released the iOS 18 version for iPhones and iPads, alongside the macOS 15 for Mac computers. This release is best known for featuring Apple Intelligence, the company’s self-made generative artificial intelligence system.
This likewise provided a new path for Siri as it upgraded the renowned AI assistant.
However, while many expected this to be Siri’s massive change towards the promised upgrades it badly needs, it was criticized for not yet being as advanced as its competitors in the market. I
It was revealed that Apple is still developing its AI capabilities that users will see in the future upgrades of the chatbot.
