Why Apple is overhauling its software

According to Bloomberg, Apple’s upcoming iOS update will be “one of the most dramatic software overhauls” in the history of the tech company.

Usually, its updates are simple, seeking to fix issues or enhance what’s already possible on Apple’s devices.

For instance, the update that addressed the issue of iPhones seriously overheating.

Or the long-awaited Apple Watch update, which took 10 years to arrive.

This iOS update, however, will go beyond the usual, with a strong focus on simplification.

Apple is also aiming to achieve consistency across all of its devices, as elements like app layouts and icon styles currently differ slightly from product to product.

What to expect with the upcoming iOS update

While Apple hasn’t released any official information, we can look to the software on Apple Vision Pro for clues.

This software uses round app icons, much like those seen on the Apple Watch.

Many speculate Apple will replace the rounded-square app icons we see on iPhones with circular ones across all devices.

Reports suggest the new OS will also use the Apple Vision Pro’s translucent menu style.

The AI-powered version of Siri, which has faced delays, is also expected to roll out with these updates.

Siri is set to be able to provide context-aware responses and be used within third-party apps.

It’s likely that iOS 19, iPadOS 19, and macOS will be launched at the annual Worldwide Developers Conference in June.

Apple users will experience this software when it rolls out in September, alongside the next iPhone.
