Arthur W. Jubin – The Adirondack Daily Enterprise


Arthur Wesley Jubin, 96, died on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024, at his home with loved ones by his side.

Born to John Chester and Edgarita Jubin nee Richardson in Lake Placid, he is survived by his children, Arthur Vlaun Jubin,

Kenneth Charles Jubin, Julieve Jubin, Gretchen Evelyn Galaty and Jennifer Anne Jubin; one granddaughter, Samantha Jane Jubin; many nieces and nephews; former wife, Carol Violet Vlaun, the mother of Arthur, Kenneth, Julieve, and Gretchen; and former wife, Katherine Louise Hanford, the mother of Jennifer. Preceding him in death were his siblings, John Jubin Jr., Dorothy Maxson and Natalie Norris.

Art lived an extraordinary life. He graduated from Lake Placid High School, where he excelled in sports and was recognized as the most multi-disciplined high school athlete. He graduated from Syracuse University with a bachelor’s degree of business and was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon. He served in the U.S. Army at Camp Atterbury (Indiana) and Fort Jackson (South Carolina) during the Korean War.

After graduating, Art returned to Lake Placid and started and ran his own insurance and real estate business, Whiteface Agency. He was an accomplished certified general appraiser, which title he held throughout his career. Known for his generosity and kindness, he provided countless community gatherings over the years, including annual Memorial Day and Fourth of July celebrations, and backcountry ski parties to Tahawus.

At the age of 50, Art realized his long-term dream of running a ski center. He built Cascade Ski Touring Center in 1979, which included groomed trails, a ski and rental shop and restaurant and bar, and regular full moon parties with live music and bonfires that are legendary. Over 43 years, Art dedicated his life to the enjoyment of others with unwavering generosity and spirit. Cascade was home to many from all walks of life, including local families, friends, and those loyal customers from distant places who returned year after year to experience the unique warmth and hospitality. Art was also an avid tennis player, hiker (46er, 1974/Emmons), sailor, and bridge player throughout his life until his final days. Finally, Art was a great dad with an enormous heart and loved by many. We will miss him dearly.

Visitations will be held in his honor from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov 6 at the M. B. Clark, Funeral Home, Lake Placid, with an American Legion Prayer Service to follow at 6 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7 at St. Eustace Church in Lake Placid. the Rev. Kenneth Hitch will officiate. Burial will follow at North Elba Cemetery, Old Military Road, Lake Placid. The American Legion Post 326, Lake Placid, will provide military honors.
