Panel on racial and social divides

The Fifth Annual Radical King Symposium: Building Bridges, 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday. A My Brother’s Keeper Cambridge Task Force panel discussion guided by King’s work examines relationships and change across racial, ethnic and social divides. Moderated by MBK’s Tony Clark, the panel includes Ellen Semenoff from the Department of Human Services; Andrew King from the Boston University Center for Antiracist Research; Lilly Havstad of Harvard University; Wayne Altman of the Tufts University School of Medicine; state Rep. Marjorie Decker; and Anthony Galluccio. The free event is at the Cambridge Main Library, 449 Broadway, Mid-Cambridge. Free. 


More charter review by council

City Council, 11 a.m. Monday. A “special committee of the whole” continues a Dec. 9 hearing to review and discuss recommendations from a Charter Review Committee and additional suggestions from the full council about the city’s charter – the ruling document that gave us a city manager form of government and didn’t get a second look for 80 years. Seniors group plans for 2025

Mass Senior Action, 11:30 a.m. Monday. Cambridge and Somerville residents are invited to a discussion about local and statewide priorities for 2025, including how the group can grow its power and improve its members communities. At the Citywide Senior Center, 806 Massachusetts Ave., Central Square, Cambridge.

Views on city manager contract

City Council, 4 p.m. Monday. Councillors will take public comment on the work of city manager Yi-An Huang to consider when discussing holding contract negotiations with him, then take a vote whether to go into a closed-door session for that discussion. Look at transportation projects

Transportation and Public Utilities Committee, 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday. This committee run by city councillor Cathie Zusy talks about projects in and around the city – by its own staff or various state agencies – that could affect how residents get around, much of the agenda coming from a Nov. 14 report. The committee meets at City Hall, 795 Massachusetts Ave., Central Square. Televised and watchable by Zoom videoconferencing. 

Search for a superintendent

Special meeting of the School Committee, 4 p.m. Tuesday. A discussion of the search for a permanent superintendent to replace Victoria Greer, who left at the end of June after being asked to resign by the committee. The interim leader is chief operating officer David Murphy, whom the committee has shown confidence in, but a search goes on and a vote on its results must be made before the date of the biennial election of the committee, which falls on Nov. 4. Advice for immigrants and allies

Know-your-rights training, 10:30 a.m. to noon Jan. 30. A free workshop with immigration attorneys discusses the rights of people when confronted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents; recent changes in immigration law; and how to get personalized legal help from an immigration lawyer. Refining ideas for Porter Square

Massachusetts Avenue planning study, 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 30. Weigh in on the future of Porter Square, including possible zoning changes, urban design concepts and open-space improvement ideas developed over the past several months with community input. Watchable by Zoom videoconferencing.
