Advance Auto Parts plans to close more than 500 locations as part of what it described as a strategic plan to improve business performance.
The auto parts retailer made the announcement in its third-quarter financial report.
In the report, the company outlined a plan to improve performance with a focus on retail improvements in three categories: store operations, merchandising excellence, and supply chain. As part of that change, Advance will close 523 corporate stores and will end relationships with 204 independent locations. It will also close four distribution centers.
At the same time, Advance said it will accelerate the pace of new store openings.
“This reduction consists of complete market exits in certain Western states, coupled with the optimization of our footprint in other markets, including eastern states where we have higher density,” Advance Auto Parts chief Executive Shane O’Kelly said on the post-earnings call, according to Market Watch.
There are more than 130 Advance Auto Parts locations in Alabama.
The locations to be closed has not been announced.
