Samsung is making your smart TV even smarter at CES with Vision AI.
It’s no little-known fact that Samsung has gone all in on AI technology. We heard the company talk about it during its last two Unpacked events, so it’s no surprise that the company spoke about it during CES. At the event, Samsung introduced us to Vision AI.
As stated by the company’s president and head of Visual Display Business, SW Yong, “Samsung sees TVs not as one-directional devices for passive consumption but as interactive, intelligent partners that adapt to your needs.” So, the company saw an opportunity to make the smart displays in your home more useful than just devices to watch content on.
Vision AI is a suite of AI tools that will make your smart TV even smarter. For starters, there will be some new smart tools that you can use while watching media. The Click to Search feature will allow you to identify actors and other information about the content you’re watching. This is similar to the X-Ray feature on Amazon Prime Video.
Next up, the company will bring a Live Translate mode. So, if you’re watching content in a different language the TV will be able to identify it and automatically translate it for you.
Obviously, there needs to be some sort of generative AI feature. Vision AI comes with a Generative Wallpaper feature. As you can guess, you’ll be able to get personalized backgrounds generated from text prompts.
Along with that, Vision AI will bring enhancements to the overall picture and sound quality of what you’re watching. So, expect everything you watch to look better.
SmartThings integration
What’s probably the most interesting thing about Vision AI is that it will turn your TV into a hub for your SmartThings devices. Using your TV, you’ll be able to view real-time updates about what’s going on in your home. Also, you’ll be able to use your screen to keep an eye on your home when you’re not there. It will be able to keep track of what your pets are doing and what your children are doing.
At the event, Samsung announced new Smart TVs and monitors running Microsoft Copilot. That’s a bit surprising, as Samsung is extremely close to Google. We’d expect it to use Gemini, but it looks like Samsung is expanding its partnerships.
Because it’s such an innovative AI platform, Samsung’s Vision AI has gained the Android Headlines award for Best of CES 2025.
