PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) – The Belpre Industrial Parkersburg (BIP) Railroad received a grant on October 24th by the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Railroad Administration for projects on the bridge connecting West Virginia and Ohio.
This was announced by U.S. Senator Joe Manchin as one of the projects in the $29.7 million overall.
He described this investment as a great way to connect the West Virginia communities, and he is confident it will bring more visitors and economic development.
The project itself will help with final designs and repairs to the two bridges in Ohio and West Virginia.
Dustin Heichel, the general manager at BIP, said this grant will be a great thing to have for the community.
“It’s been a work in progress,” Heichel said. “We’ve had to deal with a lot of different people and the Ohio Economic Development Group has been very helpful. It’s a good thing for us. It’s definitely a good thing for the community and for jobs.
Heichel adds that this will also help alot with the rail service being the bridge that connects West Virginia and Ohio.
“It’s going to help the Mid-Ohio Valley quite a bit,” Heichel added. “It will help with the rail service and the emissions for trucks and stuff like that. It’s a very good thing that we got this grant.”
