BMW has confirmed that the first of its Neue Klasse EVs will be the new iX3 and it’s set to have a seriously impressive range.
The highly anticipated vehicle is the first to feature next-generation batteries that could make range anxiety a thing of the past.
The car will be officially unveiled in September this year, with BMW CEO Oliver Zipse saying the upcoming EV will be a ‘typical X model and a BMW through and through’.
But what’s not so typical is the battery’s minimum range offering of 600km (373 miles).

The German car maker has been working away at its EV offerings for years – with claims there’s even a secret EV dubbed ‘the beast’ in the works.
This week, the marque confirmed that its first production model, next generation, fully electric car – a new iX3 – will be officially unveiled at the Munich Motor Show in September and will roll off the production line in late 2025.
The iX3 will be the first vehicle to be fitted with the Neue Klasse technology – a big milestone for the marque.
“It’s a project that is unprecedented in both form and significance in the history of the BMW Group,” said Zipse.
“With the Neue Klasse we will be turning the mobility of the future into reality.”
The new models will have impressive range
While rumors and speculation about BMW’s new EVs have swirled for months, we’ve finally been given some interesting details about the range.
The team from BMWBlog was invited out to the Battery Cell Manufacturing Competency Center in Parsdorf, Germany, where they learned more about the new-generation batteries – and the impressive range they can deliver.
BMW told the publication the lowest range of its new models is a stellar 600km (373 miles), while the highest is a staggering 900km (560 miles).
As yet, the automaker hasn’t confirmed which models will be capable of achieving the higher level of range but has said all Neue Klasse-based electric cars will hit a minimum of 600km.
Alongside that, the new models are also set to get a charging time increase of up to 30 percent.
As you might expect, news of the batteries has been welcomed by EV fans online, with one saying ‘a legacy automaker is finally catching up to Tesla’.
“Very respectable ranges for what will likely be great cars to drive,” said another.
