BMW has started pilot production of Neue Klasse electric cars at a new plant in Hungary

BMW Group has announced that trial production of the X Series electric cars, which belong to the Neue Klasse generation, has started at its plant in Debrecen, Hungary. The first cars have already rolled off the assembly line, which means that preparations for series production, which will start at the end of 2025, have entered the final phase.

Here’s What We Know

According to Milan Nedeljković, member of the Board of Directors of BMW AG responsible for production, this phase is the key to the launch of the new plant. Pilot production allows all logistical and production processes to be tested under realistic conditions. The goal is to make sure that the series launch goes as smoothly as possible.

At the moment, it is known that the first Neue Klasse vehicle will be a “Sports Activity Vehicle” (abbreviated to “SAV” – that’s what BMW calls crossovers). This will be followed by a sedan the size of the current BMW 3 Series.

Here’s How It Works

Before mass production begins, prototypes are made at the factory. This allows all stages of production to be tested: from the supply of components to the operation of the latest equipment and digital tools.

Every day, new components and materials arrive in Debrecen and prototype vehicles roll off the assembly line. Every step is checked to ensure compliance with BMW Group standards. Particular attention is paid to the digital integration of the equipment, as well as to the training of the staff, who learn how to operate the machinery in the process.

The company plans to use the coming months to improve technology and procedures so that the plant will be fully compliant for series production by 2025.
