ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Atlanta fire crews responded to a car fire Sunday morning and found a dead body in the backseat, according to officials.
Crews with the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department responded to a burning vehicle at Wilson Avenue and Wadley Street in northwest Atlanta, near I-20, around 7:20 a.m., according to the department.
Crews extinguished the fire and discovered a body in the backseat.
Atlanta police said they’re currently treating the case as a death investigation. They’re reviewing surveillance cameras in the area to learn what happened.
The medical examiner will respond to the scene to help identify the person.
Police are asking anyone in the area with information on the case to send tips to Crime Stoppers. Anonymous tipsters can submit information by calling 404-577-TIPS (8477), submitting an online report or texting CSGA and the tip to CRIMES (738477).
