Cable internet services restored after Chester County vandalism; investigation continues – Main Line

An investigation into who might have severed fiber optic cable lines to residences and businesses in western and central Chester County is continuing.

A police spokeswoman at West Brandywine Police Department said Monday that there was no new information about the matter but a statement from Comcast last week indicated that service had been restored to those affected by the vandalism.

“Our teams worked as quickly as possible to restore services after vandalism impacted some customers in the Coatesville area on Thursday,” the statement read.

The cutting was first reported on Thursday. Affected areas included West Brandywine, Honey Brook, Upper Uwchlan, Glenmoore and Downingtown. Those with other service providers, including Verizon, were apparently unaffected.

Most customers’ service was restored the same day, a Comcast spokesperson said in an email. The company said a few customers were without internet access into Friday, but service was completely restored by Friday morning.

“Our teams worked as quickly as possible to restore services after vandalism impacted some customers in the Coatesville area on Thursday,” the statement read.

It was believed that the vandalism was not due to an attempt to steal copper wire, since fiber optic cable does not contain such material. According to some social media posts, Internet services were out for many businesses in the area.

Police said they are working with Comcast to find the person responsible for the damage. They’ve asked anyone with information to call 610-380-8201.
