COMMUNITY MEAL: YWCA of the Greater Capital Region, Inc., located at 21 First St. in Troy, serves a weekly community meal from 5 to 6 p.m. each Tuesday. It is a free-of-charge, to-go dinner provided for YWCA residents as well as anyone in the community. All are welcome to join us each week for a free, nutritious cooked meal. Meals are prepared by a variety of volunteers including but not limited to YWCA-GCR staff, residents, community members and students. Residents are encouraged to participate in preparation of the meals and will be assisted by staff in menu planning, shopping and time management. We serve an average of 75 people per week. The YWCA-GCR also partners with community organizations to set up booths at weekly Community Meal to advertise, promote and engage guests in services. ELECTRIFYING THE EMPIRE STATE: League of Women Voters of Saratoga County is holding a meeting, via zoom, on Electrifying the Empire State with all-electric, emissions free homes, on April 12th from 7 to 8:30 pm.This event is open to the public. The folks who attend the distribution may be experiencing homelessness or food insecurity, or they may simply be running short on resources at the end of the month. Set up for the weekly Sidewalk Warriors distribution events begins at 5 p.m. each Thursday, and volunteers begin serving at 6 p.m., no matter what the weather. HISTORY PROGRAM: Greenbush Historical Society Presents “Fun On Two Wheels: A Short History of the Bicycle – Plan to join the Greenbush Historical Society on Sunday, April 16, 2 p.m. at the East Greenbush Community Library. Our speaker will be David Chinery who will present a short history of bicycles dating from 1815 to 1900. The bicycle is an incredibly simple machine by today’s standards but it took a long time to develop. Bicycles in use during this period include the draisine, the velocipede, the boneshaker, the high wheel and the safety bicycle. Along with an impact on transportation, the development of the bicycle brought about social changes for both men and women. On display will be a Columbia bicycle, the most modern of the year 1898, which lacks one of today’s most crucial bicycle elements. EARLY ALZHEIMER’S SUPPORT & EDUCATION: EASE is an eight-week interactive learning program for people with early stage memory loss and their care partners. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, as well as current research and treatment plans. Other topics covered during the 8 weeks include legal and financial preparation, communication and compensatory strategies, home safety, and community resources. A support group is also offered at the end of each session. The program will be hosted every Monday April 17 to June 12 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Alzheimer’s Association Northeastern New York Chapter Office at 1003 New Loudon Rd. in Colonie. This program is free but registration is required. KNIT & CROCHET GROUP: Join the Troy Public Library for a bi-weekly stitching group from 10 to 11 a.m. on every first and third Friday of the month. FOOD DRIVE: The Pines at Glens Falls is collaborating with The Veterans & Community Housing Coalition to host our 3rd annual drive thru – food drive to assist local veterans and their families. As in the past, the event will be a “drive thru” for the community and local businesses to drop off either non-perishable items or monetary donations. The drop off time will be between 11:00 am-1:00 pm on Friday, April 21st. In addition, on the day of the event, there will be area businesses set up with information, giveaways, raffles and more.

WING FEST: The Glens Falls Collaborative will be hosting its annual Wing Fest event on Saturday, April 29, 2023, from noon to 3 p.m. in Downtown Glens Falls. The event is a competition between restaurants for the best wings. Tasting is from noon to 3 p.m. and an awards ceremony at the bandstand in City Park at 3:30 p.m. will close out the event, with multiple categories of winners. There will also be live music in Downtown Glens Falls. The 2nd annual Michael DuBray Inferno Wing Eating Competition takes place at 2 p.m. on Glen Street during Wing Fest. Competitors will pay a registration fee of $25 that will go into a Michael DuBray Scholarship Fund. The winner will receive a trophy and bragging rights. STEP BY STEP: All women are invited to attend an all day “Step by Step” springtime event, sponsored by Hope For A Woman’s Heart, at the Courtyard by Marriott in Lake George from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 29. Participating activities will include: Dance numbers with husband and wife team Aaron & Christy Coulson; the Glorious Praise Dancers group; music by singer Danielle Hoag and a floral arrangement demonstration by Gina Whalen. Raffles and vendor shopping will also be available. Featured speakers Jillian Pelkey and Christy Coulson will give inspirational messages of Hope. CAPITAL DISTRICT REPTILE EXPO: The Capital District Reptile Expo is returning to the Albany Capital Center on Sunday May 7th from 10am to 4pm. We are in our fifth year of operation, with each of the previous Spring and Fall events having brought a continually growing crowd of over 4,000 people to the Capital Region to learn about and purchase exotic pets and related supplies. We occupy the entire Albany Capital Center for an incredible 80,000 square feet of over 160 vendors tables, selling exotic Pets and feeders, as well as enclosures and care items for these animals. We will be offering our largest selection of animals and supplies to date with hundreds of different species of reptiles, amphibians, aquatics, small exotic mammals, and invertebrates (primarily arachnids, insects, and crustaceans) available for purchase. SUMMER SPACTACULAR: Saratoga Performing Arts Center announces its inaugural fundraiser to kick off the summer season, Summer SPACtacular. Slated for 5 to 10 p.m. on Friday, June 2, the event will feature an expansive celebration across the SPAC grounds that includes live music, a multi-course “Summerscape Supper,” culinary tastings, cocktails, a whiskey and cigar lounge, fireworks and a dance party on SPAC’s historic stage. COMMUNITY MEAL: YWCA of the Greater Capital Region, Inc., located at 21 First St. in Troy, serves a weekly community meal from 5 to 6 p.m. each Tuesday. It is a free-of-charge, to-go dinner provided for YWCA residents as well as anyone in the community. All are welcome to join us each week for a free, nutritious cooked meal. Meals are prepared by a variety of volunteers including but not limited to YWCA-GCR staff, residents, community members and students. Residents are encouraged to participate in preparation of the meals and will be assisted by staff in menu planning, shopping and time management. We serve an average of 75 people per week. The YWCA-GCR also partners with community organizations to set up booths at weekly Community Meal to advertise, promote and engage guests in services. SIDEWALK WARRIORS: Each Thursday evening in the parking lot at 35 State St. in Troy, dozens of volunteers set up a large number of tables for Sidewalk Warriors’ weekly distribution. At these tables, visitors can find hot foods, sandwiches, produce, pantry items and essentials. The group often provides special distributions such as towels, linens, pillows, winter boots, underwear, socks or laundry detergent. The folks who attend the distribution may be experiencing homelessness or food insecurity, or they may simply be running short on resources at the end of the month. Set up for the weekly Sidewalk Warriors distribution events begins at 5 p.m. each Thursday, and volunteers begin serving at 6 p.m., no matter what the weather. BROWN BAG LUNCH SERIES: Thursday, June 8, 2023: Erasing Spaces and Faces: The Legacy of Urban Renewal in Saratoga Springs presented by the Erasing Faces and Spaces Project Team. The Saratoga Springs Heritage Area Visitor Center, in partnership with the Saratoga Springs Public Library, is excited to announce the launch of their Spring 2023 Brown Bag Lunch Lecture Series. This community lecture series is designed to highlight the rich history, culture, and traditions of our city. All Brown Bag Lunch Lecture Series programs are free and open to the public. KNIT & CROCHET GROUP: Join the Troy Public Library for a bi-weekly stitching group from 10 to 11 a.m. on every first and third Friday of the month. Whether you have experience knitting or crocheting or you want to start learning a new skill, this group is for you! Participants will work together to stitch blankets and other needed items to donate to local homeless shelters and outreach groups. Participants are also welcome to work on their own personal projects. Bring your own knitting needles and crochet hooks or use what we have available. This in-person event is free and open to the public. No registration required. The Troy Public Library is located at 100 Second Street, Troy.
