Call of Duty: Mobile is celebrating its 5-year anniversary and with it, the announcement that the game has been downloaded one billion times since it was launched back in 2019. It’s hard to believe that Call of Duty: Mobile has been around this long. It seems like just yesterday the game was making its debut on Android and iOS devices. Opening up the world of gaming on mobile to a level of quality that is still to this day, a rare breed.
It’s especially surprising when you think about the fact that Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile exists. Warzone Mobile is, of course, an entirely different game and is meant to be developed in parity with the main console and PC Call of Duty games. So you’ll end up with weapons and skins that carry across both the mobile game and the PC and console counterparts. In addition to shared XP gains.
But with Warzone Mobile available, some fans had wondered what might become of Call of Duty: Mobile. Would Activision look to kill it off now that there’s a new mobile Call of Duty title? Activision quickly dispersed these rumors and fears, saying it had no plans to shut the game down. Noting that it would be “supported for the long haul.” And that brings us to today, the game’s 5-year celebration, with likely (and hopefully) many more years to come.
The Call of Duty: Mobile 5-year anniversary will kick off with a new map
This year’s anniversary is kicking off with a new battle royal map that Activision is calling Krai. It’s a “dense urban landscape with 5 major points of interest.” There’s also going to be an in-game narrative mission that players can complete that ties into it. Players can also deploy as Urban Tracker to explore the sprawling area of Krai to check things out.
Additionally, there will be a new battle royale class called the Teleport class. If you like getting across the map quickly, this is the class for you. Its unique ability is a special beacon you can place, and then you can teleport to that beacon from anywhere else on the map. So the key is finding a good spot to hide it. As you’ll be able to get there in the blink of an eye and that could come in handy. Think of it similar to a tactical insertion in other Call of Duty games, but better.
Activision is also going to be introducing a new weapon for players to acquire. The USS 9 SMG. Basically, a lot of the same stuff Activision had for the 4-year celebration last year.
Players can take part in themed events throughout the celebration
Call of Duty: Mobile’s year 5, season 10 doesn’t start for a couple more days. Once it does though, players will want to keep on the lookout for anniversary events and themed events taking place. The anniversary stuff begins on November 6 at 5PM Pacific Standard Time. So that’s Wednesday toward the end of the workday for most people. Which means you can jump right in by the time you get home.
Activision doesn’t give much detail on the event themes, but it does say there are loads of rewards to be earned. Players can earn XP, weapon blueprints, operator skins, and more.
