Launching April 30, Carême comes from The Three Musketeers director Martin Bourboulon and feaetures French talent including César Award-winner Benjamin Voisin in the titular role and The French Dispatch star Lyna Khoudri.
The show sees the protagonist grasp fame and then so much more, as his talent and ambitions attract the attention of renowned and powerful politicians, who use him as a spy for France. Determined to escape poverty and fulfill his dream, Carême can choose revenge or he can have it all – women, wealth, fame – but at what cost?
Inspired by the book ‘Cooking for Kings: The Life of Antonin Carême, The First Celebrity Chef’ by historian and actor Ian Kelly, Carême is created by Kelly and Davide Serino. It is the latest high profile French Apple TV+ show following the likes of fashion series La Maison and Eva Green-starrer Liaison.
The news comes after Apple TV+ signed a landmark first agreement with French professional bodies. The agreement commits the streamer to investing 20% of its previous year’s net annual turnover in France in the development and production of European and French audiovisual works.
Carême is executive produced by Vanessa van Zuylen with VVZ Production and Dominique Farrugia with Banijay’s Shine Fiction for Apple TV+. The series was shot on location in and around Paris.
